Body Freezing Is Not Cryogenics

Cryonics and cryogenics are not the same thing.

Cryogenics is the science and engineering of extremely low temperatures and their applications. Cryonics, by contrast, refers to the practice of preserving a deceased person or body parts at very low temperatures in the hope that future technology may one day make revival possible.

The Cryogenic Society of America does not endorse cryonics and does not consider it part of the scientific or engineering field of cryogenics.

Popular culture frequently uses the word cryogenics when referring to the freezing or preservation of human bodies. This usage is inaccurate. We encourage writers, journalists, filmmakers, and the public to distinguish clearly between these two terms.
